Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Peter Gilgan is the Founder and CEO of Mattamy Homes, the largest privately owned homebuilder in North America, with more than 70,000 homes sold in hundreds of communities across Canada and the United States.
One of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs, Mr. Gilgan was awarded one of the country’s highest civilian honours in 2013 when he was appointed to the Order of Canada, in recognition of his innovative leadership in Canada’s construction industry, and for his philanthropic support of initiatives in health care, education and athletics. Mr. Gilgan was also named to the Order of Ontario in 2012, for his business leadership and philanthropic initiatives. In 2013, he was inducted as a Companion into the Canadian Business Hall of Fame and honoured with a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
Mr. Gilgan’s multi-million dollar commitment to philanthropy and community building is unparalleled, from health care to physical activity to higher education and community legacies – he truly is a respected and dedicated community leader. His lifetime charitable donations total more than $150 million, making him part of a small group of Canadian philanthropists who have given more than $100 million.
In September 2014, Mr. Gilgan announced a $30 million gift toward construction of a new patient-care tower for critically ill patients at Toronto’s St. Michael’s Hospital. In March 2012, Mr. Gilgan gave the largest gift to a pediatric hospital in Canadian history with his $40 million donation to SickKids Hospital. In November 2011, he announced an historic $15 million gift to Ryerson University for the development of a new student and community athletic centre at the site of the former Maple Leaf Gardens. In 2010, Mr. Gilgan kicked off the capital campaign to build the New Oakville Hospital with a $10 million pacesetting gift.
Chief Operating Officer
Brian Johnston is the Chief Operating Officer at Mattamy Homes, with responsibility for all operational aspects of the Company’s homebuilding business across Canada and the United States. Prior to joining Mattamy in 2012, Brian was the President of Monarch Corporation, the Canadian arm of U.S.-based homebuilder Taylor Morrison. As President of Monarch, Brian was responsible for all facets of the company’s low- and high-rise businesses in Canada. Prior to that, Brian also served as Monarch’s EVP and Chief Financial Officer and was instrumental in Monarch’s expansion in the US as well as its entry into the Toronto high-rise sector in the 1990s. Brian holds a Bachelors of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto, and is a Chartered Accountant, having received his designation in 1983. He currently serves on a number of external organizations, including Director roles at Enerquality Corporation and the Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation. Brian was previously President of the Ontario Home Builders Association, Chairman of the Residential Construction Association of Ontario, Director of TARION, and a board member of the C.D. Howe Institute.
Chief Financial Officer
Bill Tofflemire is the Chief Financial Officer of Mattamy Homes, with responsibility for the company’s overall finance and accounting function, including Treasury, Tax, Reporting, Risk Management and Financial Planning and Analysis.
Before joining Mattamy in 2015, Bill was EVP and Chief Financial Officer of Walmart Canada, where he led the finance function for Canada’s fastest-growing retail operation, overseeing a team of 230 associates and with ownership of strategy, real estate, construction and strategic sourcing. He was previously Walmart’s VP of Commercial Finance, where he led financial planning and analysis for the company’s merchandising, operations and real estate areas. Prior to joining Walmart, Bill was with PepsiCo, where he served as Senior Director of Sales Finance for Pepsi Cola’s North American operations, based in New York. He also held senior finance and strategy roles for Pepsi Cola’s Canadian operation. Bill started his career with Procter & Gamble, where he had senior positions within financial analysis, corporate finance and line-finance management.
Bill holds Bachelor of Commerce and Master of Business Administration degrees from Queen’s University and has obtained the CPA, CMA designation.
Executive Vice-President and Chief Human Resources Officer
Mary Federau is the Executive Vice-President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Mattamy Homes, Canada’s largest homebuilder with $1.7B in revenues. Concurrently, she is the Chairman of the Peter Gilgan Foundation, and is on the Board of Governors of the Calgary Parks Foundation. Previous to joining Mattamy in 2010, Mary was the EVP Global Human Resources of MDS Inc., an international life sciences company headquartered in Toronto. Prior to joining MDS, she held several executive roles at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, including Senior Vice-President of Child Health Services (Operations), Senior Vice-President of Corporate and Professional Services, and Director of Strategic and Financial Planning. Mary holds an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business, and was named one of Canada's Top 40-Under-40. Mary has obtained the Chartered Director designation and currently serves on the board of Parks Foundation Calgary and Good Shepherd Ministries in Toronto.
President Canadian Group
Brad Carr joined Mattamy Homes as President, Canada in June 2013. In his role he has responsibility for all of Mattamy’s Canadian Operations in the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton. Prior to joining Mattamy Mr. Carr spent 12 years at Monarch Corporation in a variety of roles including President. Mr. Carr graduated from Ryerson University in 1996 with a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Science. In addition to his role at Mattamy, Mr. Carr currently serves as the volunteer Board President for Drayton Entertainment a professional theatre company with seven theatres located across South Western Ontario.
President US Group
Jim is the President of Mattamy’s US Group and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s operations across the US, including land development, homebuilding and strategic growth. Jim has held leadership roles in the Florida real estate industry for more than 20 years. Notably, he was Florida Area President for Pulte Homes, a region that was responsible for building 8,000 homes in one year. Before joining Mattamy he was the President and COO of Vantem Composite Technologies, a private-equity owned manufacturing and building solutions company. Prior to that he was CEO of ONE80 Group, a real estate consultancy, as well as the Florida Area President for Pulte Homes. Jim was also President at First Heights Bank, a subsidiary of Pulte, in Houston, and began his career as an audit manager with Arthur Andersen.
Don joined Mattamy in April 2013 and relocated to Calgary from Edmonton to take on the role of Division President, where he is responsible for leading all aspects of the company’s established and expanding Calgary operations, including land acquisition, community design and development, and home construction. Don spent the bulk of his 25-year homebuilding career in the US, where he held executive leadership positions with large publicly traded builders such as KB Home and Centex Homes. Don has a business management degree from Texas A&M University.
Dave joined Mattamy in April 2015, with responsibility for all aspects of Mattamy’s business in Edmonton. Dave has had more than 15 years of progressive business and general management experience, most of it in the Edmonton market. Prior to joining Mattamy, he was the Vice President and Founder of Connect Homes, where he led strategic planning, business plan development and all operational aspects of the company. Previously, Dave was the Edmonton Branch Manager for All Weather Windows, and he also spent 10 years in senior positions with Future Shop across Canada.
Kevin joined Mattamy Homes in March of 2015 following Mattamy’s acquisition of Monarch Corporation. Active in the homebuilding industry since 1997, he has held leadership positions in construction and purchasing. Kevin’s last role with Monarch was Vice President of Ottawa Operations, where he was responsible for all functions of land development and construction. Kevin held a series of increasingly senior roles at Monarch including Construction Superintendent, Project Manager – Evergreen, and Purchasing / Contracts Manager before becoming the Vice President of Ottawa Operations overseeing Monarch’s Ottawa business.
Division President - Halton-Hamilton
Dave is responsible for leading all aspects of one of its largest operating divisions, including land acquisition, community design and development, and home construction. He joined Mattamy in 1989 as a summer student while attending university. Over the years Dave has held increasingly senior roles with the organization, including in various executive leadership capacities, before assuming his current role in January 2014. Dave graduated from the University of Western Ontario with an honours degree in Economics. He is married and is the father of three active boys.
Division President - GTA
Frank has been President of Mattamy’s GTA Division, one of the company’s largest operating divisions, since January 2014. He was previously President of Mattamy Development Corporation, where he began his Mattamy career in 1997 as a Project Manager. He moved up the ranks to Director, VP and SVP prior to his more recent roles as Division President. Frank graduated from Ryerson University with a dual concentration in municipal engineering and business administration. Frank entered the land development industry in project management, starting with an engineering consulting firm, but soon moving over to the development industry.
Division President - Waterloo-Wellington
Mark re-joined Mattamy in October 2011, tasked with turning around and leading the company’s Ottawa Division. Mark is now responsible for all aspects of the company’s business in Waterloo-Wellington, including land acquisition, community design and development, and home construction. Mark’s previous tenure with Mattamy was from 2005 to 2008 when he served first as VP Construction in the Halton Division and then as President of the Halton North Division. Before Mattamy Mark was the VP Construction at Monarch Homes and held senior roles with Conservatory Group and Landmart homes.
General Manager - Urban Infill
Tim leads the Urban Infill Division at Mattamy Homes, with a focus on infill communities within built-up areas of Toronto, Mississauga and other GTA urban centres. Previously, Tim was a Senior Vice President of Land Development in Mattamy’s GTA Division, with responsibility for the development of numerous projects across the GTA and for mentoring the land development teams in Mattamy’s Ottawa, Calgary and Edmonton divisions. Tim also has extensive experience in completing acquisitions of raw land and corporate acquisitions of land development and homebuilding companies. Tim has held several positions with increasing responsibility over his career at Mattamy. Prior to joining Mattamy, Tim was a Plant Manager at Lafarge and graduated from Queen's University with a Civil Engineering degree.
Emilio joined Mattamy Homes in March of 2015 following Mattamy’s acquisition of Monarch Corporation. Emilio has over 30 years of experience in the construction and development industry, with the past 25 years dedicated to high-rise developments. In 2005, Emilio was appointed as Monarch’s Senior VP of High-Rise. Emilio is actively involved in all phases of high-rise, from acquisitions and initial planning to development and construction of residential and commercial/retail projects.
Mike joined Mattamy in June 2015 and is responsible for leading all aspects of Mattamy’s land development and homebuilding business in North and South Carolina.
Mike has more than 25 years of experience as a major homebuilder Division President in the North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida markets, and his management background includes operations, finance, marketing and sales. Most recently he was the Division President for M/I Homes in Charlotte, and previously he held Division President roles for Centex Homes in Charlotte and Tampa, FL. Mike has a degree in Building Construction from the University of Florida.
Cliff joined Mattamy in January 2009 and is responsible for leading all aspects of Mattamy’s land development and homebuilding business in Jacksonville.
Cliff was Mattamy’s VP of Operations in Minneapolis before being promoted into the President role in Jacksonville in February 2013. Prior to joining Mattamy, Cliff held various leadership positions with Centex Homes, including Division Manager, Southern Virginia; Construction Services Manager, Southeast Florida and Southern Virginia; and Area Construction Manager, South Florida. Previous to Centex Cliff was the General Manager at American Wall Systems. Cliff holds a BA in Economics from Middlebury College.
Trace joined Mattamy in February 2013 and is responsible for leading all aspects of Mattamy’s land development and homebuilding business in Minnesota.
Trace was the VP of Operations in Minnesota before being promoted into the President role in June 2016. Prior to joining Mattamy, Trace was with The Ryland Group as VP of their Minneapolis-St. Paul Division, where he had operational responsibility for land development, architecture, warranty, customer relations and construction. He holds builder licenses in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, and has a degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin.
Alex joined Mattamy in March 2016 and is responsible for leading all aspects of Mattamy’s land development and homebuilding business in Orlando.
Alex has served in executive roles with a number of major homebuilders. Before joining Mattamy, he was the Vice President/Division Manager with Ryan Homes/NVR in Washington DC. He was also the General Manager responsible for all aspects of NVR’s flagship Potomac Shores community. Previously Alex was with Toll Brothers in both Minnesota and Washington DC, as a Division Assistant Vice President and Project Manager. He was also an officer in the United States Navy. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree, History Major, from the Virginia Military Institute.
Harry joined Mattamy in May 2016 and is responsible for leading all aspects of Mattamy’s land development and homebuilding business in Phoenix.
Harry has 20+ years of experience in homebuilding, most of it in the Phoenix marketplace. Prior to joining Mattamy, he was the Arizona Division President for K. Hovnanian Homes, overseeing the company’s consolidated Phoenix operations. Previously Harry was with KB Home as SVP Land and VP Land Acquisition in Phoenix, and also worked with the Land Advisors Organization, the largest brokerage company in the US focused exclusively on land. Harry has degrees in Anthropology and History and a Masters of Urban and Environmental Planning from Arizona State University.
Josh joined Mattamy in August 2014 and is responsible for leading all aspects of Mattamy’s land development and homebuilding business in Tucson.
Josh spent his entire 20-year career with Pulte Homes in Tucson and California. Prior to joining Mattamy he was the Vice President, Field Operations in Tucson, with leadership responsibilities for the company’s overall operations in the market, including land acquisition, community start-up, and production and warranty activities. Previously Josh served as Pulte’s Regional VP Operations in southern California, and held construction and customer service positions in their Tucson Division. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix (Tucson).
Jim joined Mattamy in September 2016 and is responsible for leading all aspects of Mattamy's land development and homebuilding business in the Tampa and Sarasota markets.
Jim has held executive roles in the homebuilding industry for 15 years. Before re-joining Mattamy (he was the company's Minnesota Division President in 2008-2009), he was with the Calatlantic Group as President of their NE Florida Division. Jim was also the NE Florida Division President with Standard Pacific Homes, Managing Director of Pinnacle Consulting Group, President of Centex's Myrtle Beach and Virginia Beach Divisions, and VP Operations of Pulte's Atlanta Division. Jim has a Bachelor of Science with a Finance major and Marketing minor from Miami University and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Business.
