What does a typical morning at work look like for you?

7:00am
I start my day by taking a walk with my  dog, Khan, a Siberian Husky and German Sheperd mix.

8:00am
I typically arrive at the sales centre around 8:00am. The first thing I do when I arrive at work is do a walk-through of the community to see if anything is out of the ordinary. Afterward, I open up the model homes and make sure they are in pristine condition, or as I like to call it “Disney World® condition.”

9:00am
Once everything is unlocked, I head to my desk to check my emails and respond to anything urgent. I then go through my schedule to see what my appointments look like for the day.

10:00am
After some housekeeping, I turn my attention to my to-do list, which includes following up with potential homebuyers from the day before or if it’s a Monday, from the weekend. I answer any questions they have or if anything has changed as far as pricing incentives.

11:00am
Throughout the day, I also meet with potential homebuyers who are looking to tour the model homes, assist homebuyers at different stages of the sales process or visit real estate offices to discuss inventory for our listings.

What skills does a New Home Counselor need to be successful?

As a New Home Counselor, one of the most important skills you need to have is being an effective listener. In sales, there’s a misconception that the more you talk, the better you are at your job. Listening will help you respond accordingly to what the customer is saying, which will make them more receptive to you. It also goes a long way to smile and introduce yourself when a customer walks in, so they feel more at ease approaching you if they need anything.

What has been your most meaningful experience since you joined Mattamy?

My most meaningful experience is being able to sell homes in the same neighborhood I live in! I purchased my Mattamy home back in April 2021 before joining the company, and I was incredibly impressed with the construction and build of our home. When I was offered a position to sell Mattamy homes in the same neighborhood, it was a no-brainer for me since I have that first-hand homebuyer experience.

What do you enjoy most about being a New Home Counselor?

I enjoy representing the Mattamy brand as both an employee and homeowner. I love telling people about my personal homebuying experience with Mattamy. It’s a powerful tool that shows customers that I believe in what I’m selling. Helping people find their dream homes and being part of one of life’s most significant milestones is truly special.

How would you describe the culture at Mattamy?

The atmosphere at work is fantastic. Everyone wants one another to succeed and will help each other do so. Mattamy finds a way to make its employees feel appreciated and valued. My Director of Sales made a special award for me called the ACE award, and they gave me a cowboy hat trophy because I love cowboy boots and I’m married to a cowboy. It’s things like that, that really make up the culture here.

What excites you the most about your future at Mattamy?

I’m excited for Mattamy’s growth in Dallas and the country. There are many future developments in the works, and I can’t wait to educate people about Mattamy and our innovative products. I look forward to seeing and experiencing Mattamy’s growth firsthand. We’re seeing some really great people come from different backgrounds which makes me feel confident we’re going in the right direction.
