Fraudulent Job Offers
Identifying Fraudulent Job Offers
There have been recent reports of people receiving what they thought were genuine offers of employment from Mattamy Homes via e-mail, text message or social media, which turn out to be false. The actions of these unauthorized persons are not associated with Mattamy and, as such, Mattamy is not responsible for the consequences of any of these fraudulent activities.
These communications can look authentic by including a company logo taken from our official website, from the Government of Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship department, or from a province’s department of labour, and adding convincing personal details using information available online. Sometimes scammers will advertise a false job on behalf of Mattamy Homes or a real job on a fake website. These e-mails and websites have no connection to Mattamy Homes.
What can real job candidates expect from Mattamy?
- Mattamy will rarely issue a job offer for a position that is not listed on our official corporate website: https://mattamyhomes.com/about/careers.
- Mattamy will extend a job offer only after you have gone through a formal interview process (which is likely to include a phone screen as well as face-to-face interview) with members of Mattamy’s People & Culture (Human Resources) team, as well as our hiring managers.
- Mattamy will never ask for credit card or bank account details during the interview process. Mattamy never asks for money from job applicants.
- Mattamy does not have a direct contact or actively work with anyone at the Canadian Embassy.
- Mattamy does not engage recruiters who use free domain email addresses such as Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo. Any correspondence with a formal job offer would come from a legitimate mattamycorp.com email domain.
- If a job offer from Mattamy is unexpected because you did not apply for a role with the company, then it is likely a false job offer scam.
What should I do if I receive a fake job offer via e-mail, text message or social media?
- Treat the e-mail, text message or social media message with caution and do not reply or call the contact number.
- Do not send any money and never surrender personal information such as passport, government ID or bank details.
- Save all received and sent emails, text messages or social media messages for evidence and report the email/website to the abuse department of the domain used by the scammer (e.g. Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo).
- Directly contact Mattamy to confirm if the job offer is a real one. Send the communication as an attachment (or screenshot) to media@mattamycorp.com with the title 'Recruitment scam' for Mattamy to further investigate.
