We’re thrilled to announce the opening of Hearthstone’s Helen Lavender Park! Built in honour of the local and beloved community member, Helen Lavender, this beautiful park is now open to the public for family fun.
As part of the dedication, Mattamy has worked together with Helen’s family, along with a local Sherwood Park author, illustrator, editor and publishing house, to create a unique story book “A Park Named Helen Lavender,” in honour of her legacy.

A Local Hero
A beloved mother, community member, teacher, writer and storyteller, Helen Lavender made a lasting impact on the hamlet of Sherwood Park through her various volunteer positions and service on the Strathcona County council. Helen lived a full life in her 80 years and is fondly remembered for her advocacy, mentorship and dedication to enriching our lives with storytelling.
Helen Lavender’s Legacy
Helen led the Storytelling Alberta group, which collected the local history of the Sherwood Park area. In June of 2014, she was honoured with a Storytelling Alberta Lifetime Membership for her contributions and volunteer work – a testament to her dedication to the art of storytelling.
