About Mattamy

One product, lovingly crafted, humbly sold, then proudly owned. That's how it starts for most companies. That's how it started for Mattamy Homes in 1978.

Today, Mattamy Homes is recognized as North America's largest privately owned home builder. We have built more than 100,000 homes in hundreds of communities. We make places people are proud to call home.

Years ago, founder Peter Gilgan took a look around and saw an opportunity to create something unique in a world of uniformity. We got to where we stand today by examining every aspect of home building we could imagine, and beginning to do it better.

Mr. Gilgan studied home design concepts from all over North America, particularly that of a growing movement. Named New Urbanism it called for homes to be more individual in character, designed into friendlier communities, infused with integrated green space, and with consideration given to people over cars. Our initial foray into this approach resulted in community design with lots configured by width not depth.

WideLot™ homes helped Mattamy evolve into Canada's largest builder of new homes.

Today, Mattamy is rigorous about every single aspect of community planning. We acquire the land, design the homes, plan the streets, and we create the people spaces—the walking and biking trails, parks, and other community features.

Still, our process remains unchanged in one fundamental way. We continue to keep our eyes, ears, and minds open. We talk to our future and present homeowners to completely understand diverse and evolving styles of living. And we continually attempt to provide for you the best, most liveable spaces with everything we learn.

Building Success

Today, Mattamy Homes is recognized as North America's largest privately owned home builder. We have built more than 100,000 homes in hundreds of communities. We make places people are proud to call home.

community is our home

We believe that our communities are just as important as our homes. That's why we ensure all of our neighbourhoods not only offer parks and play areas, they also provide access to local health care and recreation facilities. Through the Mattamy Homes 'Community Is Our Home' program, and the Peter Gilgan Foundation, we are proud to play our part in supporting local charitable organizations towards the creation of vibrant, healthy communities. From the community-based cancer support centre, to the neonatal clinic, to the university athletic centre, or a youth skills-development program, we contribute important funding to build long-term community facilities that enrich people's lives.

An active community member
Our philosophy about community is simple. It's action. More than playing a role, we intend to have an impact. For us, community can be our neighbourhoods, the cities we work and live in, or the professional bodies with whom we engage. Our business is about making and doing so, anything less is unimaginable. For the trust you place in us, we're delighted to pay it forward.
Cycling Toward a Better Future

Cycling Towards a Better Future

Cycling is a favourite pastime at Mattamy. We’ve harnessed that passion into making a difference for worthy causes. These include the annual Tour de Bleu cycling event, which has raised more than $20 million for health-care institutions in Toronto, as well as the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton. Mattamy is also the title sponsor of The Ride, the Ottawa Hospital Foundation’s cycling fundraiser in support of cancer research.

Supporting Habitat for Humanity

Habitat For Humanity

There is a natural fit between Mattamy and Habitat for Humanity. We're proud to partner with such an inspiring organization to help with their mission of making the dream of homeownership possible for hard-working families. From Milton to Jacksonville, Mattamy has provided funds to help Habitat acquire land, donated land for builds, built home exteriors, and sent volunteer teams of employees to help finish interiors.

Making a Difference in Our Schools

Making a Difference in Our Schools

We believe it’s important to support the schools in our communities. Our Charlotte team helped run the Classroom Central Free Store program, which assists teachers by providing school supplies – everything from pencils and crayons to calculators and hygiene products – for 100,000 students in 200 schools in the Charlotte area. Mattamy sales centers accepted supply donations, and we also purchased supplies that were assembled into kits by our Charlotte team.

Promoting Active, Healthy Living

Promoting Active, Healthy Living

We are proud to play our part in supporting active and healthy communities. This includes everything from ensuring our neighbourhoods have walking trails, to sponsoring local youth sports teams, to funding university athletic centres. The Mattamy Athletic Centre at Ryerson University in downtown Toronto provides Ryerson athletes and students, as well as the surrounding community, with a world-class facility featuring an NHL-sized rink, multi-purpose court, high-performance gym, and fitness studios.

Mattamy Homes in Calgary Community Involvement

Mattamy Takes A Swing Against Breast Cancer

Mattamy Homes is proud to be a presenting sponsor of the annual Batting Against Breast Cancer. The event is hosted at Chinook Winds Ball Diamonds nestled in Mattamy's Windsong community in Airdrie, Alberta. Batting Against Breast Cancer has grown to include three different locations across Canada including Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg, raising funds for breast cancer research and awareness projects. Mattamy employees from our Alberta Division play an active part in fundraising and participating, making the event a continued success.

Mattamy Homes in Raleigh Operation Coming Home

Operation: Coming Home

Operation: Coming Home, is a project that Mattamy’s Raleigh Division is very passionate about. The mission of Operation: Coming Home is to improve and enhance the lives of military service members by giving them the opportunity to own a home. "Hero Homes" are built for severely injured combat veterans who have recently returned home from active duty in the Middle East. The initiative is a result of a joint volunteer project led by the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County (HBA) and the United States Veterans Corps (USVC). Mattamy is honored to deliver homes to returning combat veterans where they can live comfortably and build memories with their families.
